Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Neil Broere (“we,” “us,” or “Unfold”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Unfold mobile application and the website at unfoldbible.app (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We try to collect as little personal data as we can. The categories below cover everything the Service may collect.

  • Account information. If you create an account or subscribe, we collect your email address and a hashed password (or, if you use Sign in with Apple, an anonymized identifier supplied by Apple).
  • Subscription and purchase information. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive only the information Apple shares with us (such as a subscription status token) and never see your full payment details.
  • Reading progress. The date and identity of the passages you read, so we can keep your place in the reading plan across devices.
  • Journal entries and notes you create. Stored and synced to your account so they are available on any device you sign in to.
  • Scribe interactions. The prompts and questions you send to the in-app Scribe and the responses it returns. See Section 3 for how this data is handled.
  • Device and diagnostic data. Crash logs, basic device type and OS version, app version, and anonymous usage analytics that help us diagnose problems and improve the app.

2. How we use information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • To sync your reading progress, journal, and preferences across your devices.
  • To process subscriptions and respond to support requests.
  • To diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and protect the integrity of the Service.
  • To send you transactional communications (such as receipts, account notices, or critical service updates). We do not send marketing email without your consent.

3. The Scribe (AI features)

Unfold includes an in-app study companion called the Scribe. When you send a message to the Scribe, your message is transmitted over a secure connection to a third-party large-language-model provider that generates a response on our behalf.

  • The Scribe is intended for biblical study and reflection. It is not a counselor, pastor, or substitute for professional advice.
  • We instruct our model provider not to train models on your Scribe messages, and we configure zero data retention where the provider supports it.
  • We store a copy of your recent Scribe conversations in your account so you can revisit them. You can delete any conversation from within the app at any time.
  • Scribe responses can be imperfect or incomplete. You should verify any factual claim against Scripture and trusted sources.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers necessary to operate the Service:

  • Hosting, database, and authentication providers.
  • Our large-language-model provider, to generate Scribe responses.
  • Apple, for purchases, subscriptions, and (if you choose) Sign in with Apple.
  • Crash and analytics providers, for diagnostics.
  • Authorities, when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.

5. Third-party content

Unfold displays Scripture from third-party translations including the New American Standard Bible® (NASB), used by permission of The Lockman Foundation, and the King James Version (KJV). Use of those texts is governed by the rights holders' terms.

6. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us at the address below. After deletion we may retain limited records as required for legal, tax, or fraud- prevention purposes.

7. Your rights and choices

  • You can edit or delete your journal entries from within the app.
  • You can delete any Scribe conversation from within the app.
  • You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing privacy@unfoldbible.app.
  • You can disable analytics and crash reporting in your iOS settings.

8. Children

Unfold is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International users

Unfold is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
